600 MHz Making waves!
Wireless microphone systems operating between 616-653 MHz and 663-698 MHz will be prohibited by law on July 12, 2020. The FCC has auctioned these frequencies off and microphone users will need to stop using systems on these frequencies. The 600MHz spectrum will be repurposed in the future for new wireless broadband services, and that repurposed spectrum will not continue to be available for use with wireless microphones that operate in that frequency range. However, this repurposed spectrum will continue to be available for use between now and July 12, 2020.
What does that mean to our customers?
Any microphone system or component that you purchase in this frequency range will be illegal to use by the summer of 2020.
To provide an example: Samson Airline 77 replacement headset/transmitter on an "N-series" frequency and it will be illegal to use in the summer of 2020. However, a full new Samson Airline 77 on the new "K-series" frequencies, which will not be affected, is for sale for $299. Now is the time to decide what you would like to do! Many manufacturers of wireless microphone systems are offering trade-in rebates to help offset the cost of the purchase of a new mic system that will be legal to operate past 2020. See below for more info.
How do I know if my mic is affected?
